Multiple Teams · Chick-fil-A Athletes of the Month!


Congratulations to the following Blake student-athletes for being named Chick-fil-A Athletes of the Month! Athletes were nominated by their coaches and selected by the Athletic Department. The award is sponsored by the Olney Chick-fil-A. Recipients receive a “mini moo” and a gift card to the restaurant. Their names will also be displayed on plaques in the store and at the school.

November 2019: Cy’Nae Martin (Cheer) and Mason Minus (Cross Country)
December 2019: Serena Harrison (Indoor Track & Field) and Ray Washington-Battle (Basketball)
January 2020: Brian Ayafor (Basketball) and Alaina Hallmark (Swim & Dive)

Cy’Nae Martin helped lead the Bengals to their second consecutive trip to Maryland State Semifinals in November 2019. The Bengals placed 15th in the West Region. Cy’Nae is a leader on the team and was nominated by her coaches!

Mason Minus was the top Bengal finisher at the MPSSAA 3A State Championship meet in November 2019, placing 67th at States. He is a hard worker and was a key contributor in his first season competing in Cross Country.

Serena Harrison had an outstanding December as a senior captain for the Indoor Track & Field team. She won the 300M Dash at the MCPS Meet #1 and placed 6th in the 500M Dash at the Howard County Winter Festival.

Ray Washington-Battle was a key to the Bengals’ Varsity Boys Basketball team starting 5-1 in December. Ray averaged 17.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game before Winter Break. Ray led the Bengals in scoring with 28 points, including the game winner, in a 56-54 victory over Paint Branch on December 20th.

Brian Ayafor has averaged 16.4 points and 13.3 rebounds in January for the Varsity Boys Basketball team. Brian has been known to throw down some impressive dunks, and his rebounding skills have helped the Bengals to a four game winning streak vs. divisional opponents.

Alaina Hallmark is a senior captain on the Bengals’ Swim & Dive team. During January, the Bengals went 3-1 and Alaina took first place in at least one event in each of the four meets. She swept the 50 and 100 Freestyles in the victories over Gaithersburg and Paint Branch.
