Below is a weekly update on how Blake Bengal alumni are faring in college athletics, including a recap of how some of our Bengals did this past week in college sports. Winter sports are in full swing in college, including many schools starting the Indoor Track & Field schedule in addition to Basketball and Swim & Dive.
Elias Boussouf (Blake ’18) debuted in his first meet for the Johns Hopkins University Track & Field team at the Diplomat Open this weekend. Elias placed 22nd in the 200M Dash (24.28) and 2nd in the 60M Hurdles (8.89). Johns Hopkins won’t compete again until January 2019.
Miles Brown (Blake ’18) is a freshman on the York College swim team. York is competing at the W&L Invitational this weekend. After the first day of the two day meet, York is in 2nd place; Miles had the fastest split on his team’s 200 Free Relay and placed third in the 50 Free (21.90). Miles also swam the anchor leg in the 400 Medley Relay. York will finish up at the meet on Sunday, 12/2.
Citiana Negatu (Blake ’15) is a senior on the Loyola University – Chicago basketball team. Loyola-Chicago won both of its two games this past week. Citiana played 27 minutes in a 76-40 win over Chicago State on 11/26, and had a season high seven points and six steals. The Ramblers followed that up with an 81-67 victory over Purdue-Fort Worth on 11/29; Citiana had another solid showing with three points, four assists and two rebounds in 11 minutes.
Jeffrey Powell-Young (Blake ’16) is a junior on the Immaculata University basketball team. The Macs had a challenging week, losing three games. Jeffrey played 15 minutes, with 8 points and 6 rebounds, in a 105-99 overtime loss to Bryn Athyrn on 11/28.
Martha Sam (Blake ’15) is a senior on the Cornell University Track & Field team. Cornell hosted the Greg Page Relays, and Martha competed in the 60M Dash (7.89) and 500M (1:22.36). Martha also was a member of the 4x400M Relay team for Cornell.
Aaron Stanton (Blake ’18) is a freshman on the Williams College swim team. Williams, an NCAA DIII school, took on Division I schools UConn and Boston University on 12/1. Aaron had a good showing in the 100 Free (47.19) and also swam the leadoff leg in the 400 Free Relay in the loss for the Ephs.
